Lyrics for Kites Without Strings - July 6, 2008

Many of you have been asking us to post lyrics for new album, and here they are in all their glory:

Ohlone

Chorus
You shake, it shocks, but you never leave the flock
You hurt, it haunts, no turning back the clock
It ticks, it tocks, you’re sinking like a rock
It drips, the drops let the heart go cold and dark

We’re all that remains
When I plug my ears
We’re all that remains
When I can’t see clear
We’re all that remains
When I leave from here
We’re all that remains

Chorus
You shake, it shocks, but you never leave the flock
You hurt, it haunts, no turning back the clock
It ticks, it tocks, you’re sinking like a rock
It drips, the drops let the heart go cold and dark

We’re all that remains
When I shed my tears
We’re all that remains
When the end is near
We’re all that remains
In a hundred years
We’re all that remains

Avalanche

How could any lover feel so good?
Oh they told me it would hurt… So what!
I was a hanging on the words you said…. Oh you uttered the words!
Oh I never thought you feel so good

Cinnamon and Sugary boy to gaze on.
It’s an avalanche love and how could they not believe us!?
Cinnamon and Sugary boy to gaze on.
It’s an avalanche love and I don’t ever want to save us.

Wreckage

All forgotten inlets
All you could not say
Falling in the silence of your stare
Sacred now a memory
What we would’ve known
Had we made a kingdom come undone

Summer’s done
Never let me go
Wreckage save me
We are Winter’s glow~!

All the land forsaken
Salvage words unsaid
Hearing traps of silence in your head
Mindful of the holy
How we could’ve been,
Had we made a kingdom come undone

Summer’s done
Never let me go
Wreckage save me
We are Winter’s glow~!

Misfit

Making your mark, you go A.W.O.L.
Every glare leaves you scared
Night spent without a warning
Beatings only you could bear

Chorus
Strike me down, I’ll come back around
Hurt me now and I’ll forget it all …..
Trespassing memory gone wrong
With you tonight
With you tonight

Taking your part, you are not there
Shaken till you feel the ground
Days and no one heard a sound
Secrets that are never found.

Chorus
Strike me down, I’ll come back around
Hurt me now and I’ll forget it all …..
Trespassing memory gone wrong
With you tonight
With you tonight

Skylark

Handle with care
You’re the magic of the whole affair
And I never seemed to cross that line
When you wanted me to pay the price
In the season of our lives
I’m next in line
When you build that ride into the SKY

Paper Airplane
Bending the light
Paper Airplanes
Catching the light
Paper Airplane
Crossing the night

Handle with care
You’re the magic of the whole affair
And I never seemed to cross that line
When you wanted me to pay the price
In the season of our lives
I’m next in line
When you build that ride into the SKY

Spades

Heartbreak wars we played so well
You kept us divided with my friend pretending
Now you’re making meds and pulling
All the pieces back together again, so afraid

You ….. Cross that bridge
Land on her continent
See land, you’re home.

Heartfelt love you planned so well
You kept us at arms with all promises
Now you’re moving in on wounds we left so open
And we tried to forget were so dead.

You ….. Cross that bridge
Land on her continent
Sea, land – you’re home.

Underground

Shut down and wounded so… You don’t know
What Ways up or to where you can go.

There’s a new life on the horizon, but can’t find
A rhyme or reason at all with these signs

So check back another time. I trust I
Won’t be making a promise next time.

*************

You cut all ties you know. They don’t know
Where you’d gone when they needed you so.

A new look and different shore. It’s not use
Recognizing your face anymore.

In your heavy heart, a thicket grows
And it’s dark, the play you go when the world so cold.

Heroine

There is a wind that drives the rain
Seas burn the tide of clouds away
High shines the sun in blinding glare
Moon clips the view & hides the flare

There is a tribe on lonely land
Shadows cast the shapes on evening sand
Mission in the static comes in clear
We move beneath the stars in golden fear.

Chorus
Time swallowed a capsule of you!
Galaxies unfolding on in on you!
Millions of miles they return to you!
Stars are born with the grains of you!

Chorus Repeat.

Evening at Santana Row - May 18, 2008

Wow! Santana Row, San Jose was a great location to play. Great stage, easy unload, and we got to play two sets. The crowds were large, as gorgeous night of lawn lounging, eating, and star gazing, and of course our live show. Thanks to all those who hung out with us and bought our newest release. We really appreciate your support!

See all the locals at our next show in Emeryville, at Bay Street.

Lyrical Process in Motion - December 1, 2007

The process is a mystery for me, as much for you the perceiver of sound. It's so much more important to understand the music as whole than to break it up into pieces; but if you must know...lyrics I write are informed by so much of life process - that is my spiritual manifestation, the people that share this world in suffering experiences, my cultural identity, imaginary worlds, the weather, the seasons, the pace of traffic, the scenery as seen through my car windshield, and finally what emotion the musical composition has evoked. I often listen to the musical instrumentation in my car; as you can imagine music is my closest friend.
The lyrical process sometimes also includes Dennis, who is a gifted writer beyond being a composer. There is a collaboration that has a positive tension, which creates counter ideas that work well in the music. The new body of work is going toward "Kites Without Strings (Release date 2008)." For this album, various tracks have been laid down magically. There will be more music written to make a fuller album. The next wondrous function of creativity comes when imagining melodies and lyrics that only patience and faith can shelter. The last layer will be the vocal tracks laid down, and then final editing and tuning. There may also be a process of weeding out songs that don't work well and have no function for this album as a whole. A democratic vote will be taken about which songs to include in the final album by all band members. Check back soon, to hear sneak peaks of new album to be released Winter of 2007.

Earnestly yours,

~Tarabud

Beginnings of Autumn - September 23, 2007

Last night we had great show at Bay Street ! Thanks to all the fans that bought both our CD's and hung out with us on that beautiful Autumn night! We were smitten with the 5 year olds and under who wanted our autographs, crayon and coloring book in hand. Thank goodness we didn't have any rain.

The big news, that you've probably already heard: We finally made it on a major FM radio station, Live105. Music Director Aaron Axelsen & Miles the Intern, believed 'All Her Ways' show worthy! Check out Soundcheck on Sunday nights (7-10pm) http://www.live105.com/pages/74867.php
and request our our music : 415-478-LIVE or text your request from your phone: 36105.

We are in the process of booking SF clubs with other great indie bands for the Fall. You'll definitely receive the updated schedule!

Lastly, we'll be posting new tunes on our website, once we finish recording the vocal tracks ~ very soon. This body of work will be going towards our 3rd album: Kites Without Strings. Yeah!

Yours,
Tarabud

New Songs in Creation - July 19, 2007

In the mean time..... Sentinel is in the mist of writing new music. We want to continue creating, even if our latest CD just came out. The five songs written, as of yet, have the signature majestic keyboard parts, galloping guitars, not to mention Tarabud vocals of the shoe-gazy sort. It might seem like a surprise to many that these new tunes are danceable but still hopeful and fantasy like.
Kites Without Strings E.P. is in the works, so keep moving and dreaming, we'll be on the airwaves soon.

Pier 39 & Live 105 ! - July 4, 2007

Sentinel had a fun show at pier 39 in San Francisco. Lots of peeps watched and ogled us, while they ate hot dogs and cotton candy, tourist took photos to show their friends in Japan, and some dedicated fans came to commune with us. It was a great time! Too bad we can only play there once a year. You can check out pics by Mary in our photo section.

That same weekend after our show, we had the pleasure of hearing our song "All Her Ways" on FM Radio, Live 105 station. Wow what a treat. We made it on the radio, and we can only thank Music Director Aaron Axelsen. Soundcheck rocks!

Happy Fourth of July Everyone !

Digital and Podcasting World - May 1, 2007

Happy May Day!
Maybe you are dancing for the coming of Summer, according to the Pagans who began the ritual, or you might be honoring the laborers and joining parades, but whatever you do....celebrate! It's May and Sentinel is about to release it's extended play album: Sequels & Hunches. It's been a while coming because we've had such busy lives. We wanted to release this music no later than Summer. In two weeks it will be available on our trusted CDBaby.com on-line distribution store. What is great about this source is that they also distribute it to many digital on-line stores where customers can buy their favorite track(s). This is the return of the hit single- ol' 45. Suddenly and happily I was invited to enter the podcasting world by DJ Anji Bee (http://www.anjibee.com/)and podsafe music network (http://music.podshow.com/). This is the beginning of a revolution, and Dj's like Scott from Insomnia Radio in San Francisco invite unsigned bands like Sentinel to join him (http://sf.insomniaradio.net/articles/home.imp). Podcasting is liberating to all those listeners who crave new music and might be tired of the radio. Of course, Podcasting extends way past just new music, but what could be more delicious than hearing new music from an unknown band across the world. I am so glad we live in this era, where independent bands trying to get noticed by large fan base, can reap the benefits of digital distributions and podcasting (http://www.podcasternews.com/programs/178/new-music-today/4008/new-music-today-2007-04-30-sentinel/). So write/call your Congress person & Representative and let them know you support Independent internet radio equality act before so many go off air on July 15. http://www3.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/callalert/index.tt?alertid=9731806I

This way everyone wins!

love from the bay,

Dream Pop - December 17, 2006

People often ask what does your band sound like?...and I am always at odds to give a straight, concise answer that won't lead them astray. How does one describe a unique sound? But by comparing to other well known bands that most people have heard of. So here is a quick description from Wikipedia.org that gives a flavor of what our sound is like:

“Dream pop is a type of alternative rock that originated in the early 1980s when bands like Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, and A.R. Kane (to whom the term has been attributed) began twisting New Wave melodies into sonic, echoing textures and mumbled vocals. The term was mostly used in the United States. In the late 1980s, several varieties of dream pop emerged, primarily in Britain. These included shoegazing and space rock. In the late 1980s and 1990s a number of dream pop bands emerged in the United States, including Galaxie 500, Mazzy Star, and His Name is Alive. More recently bands like The Dandy Warhols and Hinterland have had the label attributed to them. Dream pop has influenced artists of other genres, such as Deftones and The Smashing Pumpkins.”

So there you have an encyclopedia-type-definition, that somewhat describes Sentinel music. I would also add that our sound has a lot of U2 and Flock of Seagulls influence. The solid vocal parts & lyrics that are decipherable, come from the Olivia Newton-John, Linda Rodstadt, Pat Benatar and the like of youthful influences. The list of influences could go on & on, but the truth is, all musicians are influenced by what came before, and the ever present "collective unconscious" that Young, the psychologist often expounded on. We are all connected at some level.
Happy Holidays ! Tarabud ~

Not So Silent Night Contest ! - November 17, 2006

Dennis and I submitted this song to the LIVE 105 NOT SO SILENT NIGHT contest. So by Sunday night's Sound Check, with Aaron Axelson, we'll know, and if we make the top 25 bands, you'll have to vote for us!

Fall comeback ! - November 7, 2006

We made it back to the stage last night at the Elbo Room, SF! Thanks to Everything Gone Green for the invite to share the stage.
We had some misshaps like, breaking my bass string, and having to run to the boon docks to get another one. But Jenna and I made it back, just in time to play the show at 9:30pm. Most of our fans feedback was positive, and always there is someone that can't hear enough vocals over the other instruments. Otherwise the mix sounded good, and the new folks got their jitters out. By the end of our short set, I was perfectly warmed up and ready to play more.
Thanks to all the friends and fans that were there supporting us !! In part we do it for you, and in part, because we love to play music, listen to creations of our minds and hearts.
yours, Tarabud

The Indie World - July 16, 2006

SomaFM.com has really come through for many projects of Gatherman Productions. Sentinel has made it onto the rotation of Indie Pop Rocks radio show next to the likes of Rogue Wave and Sun Kil Moon; where people not only can enjoy the tunes, but also purchase the album on Amazon.com. Drone Zone radio show has had Slovaki Audio in high rotation also. Super! !
Nothing is more appreciated than a listener supported radio station playing local San Francisco music.

New Tarabud Album - June 8, 2006

Finally Tarabud has released her folk debut album : Demons! It has been a long time coming to complete, since this spring she was very busy with Sentinel and live shows in the Bay Area.
Check it out: www.cdbaby.com/tarabud

Intimacy - May 17, 2006

For those of you who like intimate settings with live musicians, (I being one of them) must check out the Rolo Soma show this Thursday night! It will be all that and bag of fashion. We are doing a special in store performance for many of San Francisco's posh, ultra modern clothes designers and special clientele, and of course YOU are also invited. There will be beverages and food served. How can you go wrong with that?

Thinking of you,

Tarabud
